EV Charger Installation in Layton, UT

Charging off a regular wall outlet takes about three days for a full battery. A Level 2 charger does it overnight. We install them in Layton homes and businesses, wired right and done in a day.

What a Charger Install Covers

Most people come to us after a few weeks of living with the cord that came in the trunk. It works, technically. It also adds about four miles of range an hour, which is fine until the day you actually need the car.

A Level 2 install gives you a dedicated 240-volt circuit and a charger mounted where you actually park. Here is what the job covers:

  • Load calculation to confirm your panel can carry the new circuit
  • Dedicated 240V circuit run from the panel to the charging location
  • Charger mounted and wired, hardwired or on a NEMA 14-50 outlet, whichever suits your unit
  • GFCI protection and a dedicated breaker sized to the charger
  • Conduit run cleanly, not stapled across the garage wall
  • Permit pulled with Layton City and the inspection scheduled
  • Testing with your vehicle before we leave

Will Your Panel Handle It?

A Level 2 charger pulls as much as a clothes dryer and an oven combined. On a full 100-amp panel, there is often no room for it. We run the load calculation before quoting, so you find out up front rather than halfway through the job. If your panel does need upgrading, we do that work too, and we will price both together so there are no surprises.

Why Layton Drivers in Particular

EVs have gotten common fast along the Wasatch Front, and Layton is no exception. The trouble is that a lot of the garages they park in were wired decades before anyone was charging a car in one.

Detached garages are the other thing we see constantly here. Plenty of Layton homes have one, and running a new circuit out to it is a different job than a charger on an attached garage wall. It is very doable. It just needs to be planned, trenched or routed properly, and permitted.

We will look at where you park, where the panel is, and what is between them, then tell you what the job actually involves.

How the Job Goes

1

Free estimate. Kacey looks at your panel, your parking spot, and the route between them. You get a real number, not a range.

2

Charger selection. If you have already bought one, we install it. If you have not, we will tell you what works without pushing a brand.

3

Permit. We pull the electrical permit with Layton City and schedule the inspection.

4

Install day. Most installs are a single day. Longer if the run is complicated or a panel upgrade is part of it.

5

Test and sign off. We charge your car before we leave, and the inspector signs off.

What Affects the Cost

Distance from the panel

A charger on the wall next to the panel is a short run. One at the far end of a detached garage means more conduit, more wire, and more labor.

Panel capacity

If the panel has room, this is straightforward. If it is full or undersized, a panel upgrade comes first, and that changes the number.

Finished or unfinished walls

Open studs in an unfinished garage make the run simple. Fishing wire through finished drywall takes longer and costs more.

Why Kacey

You will be dealing with the person doing the work. Kacey answers the phone, comes out to look at it, and does the install himself.

EV charger work is new enough that plenty of outfits are charging a premium simply because the words "EV charger" are in the job description. It is a dedicated circuit and a mounted unit. Kacey will quote it like the job it is.

Common Questions

Yes. A new 240-volt circuit needs an electrical permit and an inspection. We pull it and schedule the inspection.
